I knew since about Middle School that I wanted to be a lawyer. First it was Britney Spears, then it was a vet, then a teacher and now I found my dream job.
I am so sick of getting asked the question, “Why law?” because everyone expects you to say that a parent was a lawyer or your grandpa is the town judge, but that is not the case for me. No one in my family was a lawyer, a paralegal or a judge. However, my uncle was a police officer which may have sparked my interest.
I have always been interested in laws and learning about criminals, crimes and prisons. I am a frequenter of the police blotter section of the newspaper and even subscribed to the blog so I get weekly email alerts of the recent crimes.
I know that I want to be a criminal defense attorney as soon as I am done with law school. I plan to work in a large law firm until I can open my own firm and continue to dominate the law world while attempting to change the prison system and the lack of justice that is present.
Over the summer of 2018, I was lucky enough to get first-hand experience of my dream career by interning with a criminal defense attorney. I could not wait to get up each morning and see what was in store for us! I was able to meet new clients, partake in witness, defendant and victim interviews, attend pre-trial hearings, research, analyze evidence and attend trial. I absolutely cannot wait until I am able to do this all myself each and everyday!
This summer, I will be traveling to Arizona where I will be interning at the adult probation department in order to see the other side of the bench in which I am no longer defending the defendants but working to prosecute them.
I took the LSAT at the beginning of June, and now I am waiting on my score before I apply to law school in the Fall of 2019 and begin law school Fall of 2020. My current law school picks include: Harvard, USC, UCLA, UW, Pepperdine, ASU and Seattle U.
